A video providing an overview of how the Government’s online Universal Credit system will work has just been released and is available to watch here.
From 4 October 2017 the following people will be required to apply online for Universal Credit:
- people with a change in circumstances who currently claim Housing Benefit, Income-Based Job Seeker’s Allowance, Income-Related Employment & Support Allowance, Working Tax Credit or Child Tax Credit
- people making a new claim for benefit.
Unlike the benefits it will replace, Universal Credit will not be paid out until around six weeks after the claim has been made – this could cause some tenants extreme financial difficulties.
We will provide important advice to affected tenants about the claims process and the implications Universal Credit has for paying rent and the security of your tenancy. We can also provide access to computers in order to help you access what you are entitled to. Contact us to arrange an appointment.
